Also referred to as Conscious breathing, breathwork is the practice of directing awareness to the breath and incorporating techniques with the goal of improving health and building mindfulness. The ANS, Automatic Nervous System, controls automatic functions in the body such as heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, and respiratory rate. Breathwork techniques, such as slow deep breathing or paced breathing, can shift the nervous system from sympathetic dominance (fight-or-flight response) to parasympathetic activation (rest-and-digest response). This shift calms the body and all of it’s functions, creating harmony and allowing you to feel more at peace.
